FULTON, NY - Thanks to the efforts of a talented and ambitious volunteer
the United Way’s Success By 6 program will soon be launching a newly
redesigned website.
Olivia-Paige Brown, a sophomore at Baker Academy High School in Baldwinsville, has been working on the redesign of the site since November and plans on having the new website up and running later this month.
Miss Brown discovered the Success By 6 program
while searching the internet for teen volunteer organizations.
“I thought I would see if the United Way National website had any teen groups and noticed that they had a program just for kids, so I looked further into the Success by 6 Program, and came across the website for the United Way of Oswego County’s Success By 6 Program,” explained Miss Brown.
“After speaking with my parents about volunteering my time to help children they suggested that I look into helping out in Oswego County. As I am an only child I love being around kids so I contacted Success By 6 to see if they had any programs that I could assist with and have interaction with children,” she added.
While that type of opportunity did not exist, Miss Brown who has been working with websites for years, told Noreen Phillips, director of the Success By 6 program that she would still like to help them out.
“When Ms. Phillips mentioned that she would like their website updated I volunteered to redesign it for them. I wanted to make their website more colorful and easier to navigate,” said Miss Brown.
“It’s been a pleasure working with Olivia,” said Phillips. “We are very fortunate that she discovered Success By 6. When Olivia first contacted me to volunteer her time I wasn't sure what capacity we could utilize her in as she is a student and lives in Onondaga County. When she told me of her experience with web design I was excited about the opportunity to update our current site.”
Miss Brown has been busy redesigning the entire website; adding new graphics, new areas, and a special section regarding a new Success By 6 program entitled Born Learning.
Miss Brown has enjoyed her volunteer work with
Success By 6 and sees the program and its website as being very
beneficial.
“Their website is very interesting. There are some great activity tips on things to do with children that would be useful not only to parents but to those who baby-sit as well. I also like the fact that Success By 6 promotes reading. Reading is a great skill that is important throughout your life,” said Miss Brown.
“We are thrilled that Olivia decided to volunteer her talents to Success By 6. Our new website looks great. I can’t thank Olivia enough for the wonderful job she did. We look forward to our new website going live later this month,” added Phillips.
